Who is Frankie Hill?
I’m a campaign veteran, a former Biden-Appointee, a Policy Wonk, and a DC-based Politico. I’ve got knowledge, expertise, and takes to sling.
Why should I listen to you?
I have skin in the game. I grew up in rural poverty, worked my way out, and eventually clambered my way to the White House. Joe Biden picked me to help coordinate the nation’s COVID response. And once the pandemic ended, I had the opportunity to go anywhere in Government.
I interviewed for some big jobs at the Pentagon, which would have set me up for a fancy lobbying gig down the line. But it just didn’t feel right. Instead I chose to work on antipoverty programs, so I could help the folks back home.
Every day, you’re bombarded with more information than you were ever meant to consume. It’s difficult to know who you can trust. I’ve dedicated my life to making the government work for the people that need it most. I hope you’ll read what I write for you.
So you’re going to write about politics?
Yes! Most of my posts should fit into one of four categories:
Things I couldn’t say - Over half a decade of politicking, I’ve generated a long backlog of stories and “takes” that I have not been allowed to share. In this series, I’m going to revisit some old debates and finally let loose the thoughts that White House Comms would have asked me to delete.
Politics at 60,000 Feet - When I was pursuing a degree in Political Science, I studied America’s institutional design, various electoral systems, and other abstract theoretical topics about how Government can be organized. These topics explain why American politics is like this. But, surprisingly, they don’t come up very often. I’m going to share some ideas about the structural forces that shape our country and our world.
The Democratic Civil War - Regretfully, I lived through the 2016 election. And I worked as a campaign organizer during the 2020 election. I know a thing or two about the Democratic Party’s primary process and I predict that the next four years are going to involve a lot of infighting. These posts are designed to inform you, to contextualize what you may be hearing, and to help shape the internal debates to come.
Paste This to Win the Argument - This is a silly one! After nearly a decade of Twitter-addiction, I have read the same derivative political conversations tragically repeated hundreds of times. This category of post is intended for YOUR use! I’m going to write thorough thread-ending posts that you can drop into these debates to definitively win them. Just copy, paste, and log off for good!
I’m on board! But what’s up with the name?
It’s a reference to my religious upbringing and my larger political project.
I grew up in a community that was dominated by Dutch Calvinists. They practiced a form of “worm theology,” based on the idea that human beings, when compared to the infinite greatness of God, are lower than worms. I found this idea a bit traumatizing growing up.
I also saw it steering my neighbors towards bad politics. Too much cynicism about your fellow man makes it difficult to invest in the public good. It’s hard to build a government that works for people when you don’t actually like people.
It’s time for Democrats to make explicitly religious political appeals. In the Bible, Jesus tells his followers that they are a Light that cannot be hidden away under a bushel. Christ challenges us to take care of each other. To feed the poor, heal the sick, and visit the imprisoned. Humanity may well be a legion of the damned. But that doesn’t mean we’re allowed to retreat inward. I was commanded by my God to build a better society. A City on a Hill. A Heaven on Earth.
A Palace for Worms.
